About this place
At Tacoriba Sumiyoshitaisha, part of the pleasure of ordering takoyaki is choosing how it is seasoned. Diners have praised the dashi-rich batter and its crisp outside and soft inside. Another visitor noted the molten texture at the centre and generous pieces of octopus, making this a dish worth trying for the flavour of the batter as well as its toppings.
Choose from sauce, soy sauce, salt, ponzu, or curry sauce, with portions ranging from 6 to 12 pieces. You might start with the classic sauce, or opt for ponzu or salt to let the dashi come through; the portion size can be matched to your group or appetite. Green onions are available for an extra 50 yen, and kimchi for an extra 150 yen.
To add another dish, consider tonpei-yaki, pork kimchi or something fried. For a more substantial meal, there is yakisoba, yaki-udon and curry udon. One diner ordered udon with their takoyaki, while another stopped by after visiting the shrine and enjoyed dashimaki tamago, a rolled omelette seasoned with dashi, alongside the takoyaki.
Diners have mentioned several aquariums inside, and some enjoyed watching the fish as they ate. The restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout, including collection at the entrance, so you can settle in for a meal or pick something up to take away.
